Los Angeles today announced a local emergency after appearing six cases of the emerging Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The health authorities in California state: “The six new cases are not related to the first case announced in January,” noting that all new cases were infected through direct communication and not through an outbreak of the disease.
“The declaration of a state of emergency is not a panic response, but rather to employ every state-owned tool to fight infection,” said Catherine Bargerer, a District Official.
The declaration of a health emergency means an increase in preparations and efforts to combat the coronavirus, and allows the city to seek assistance from the state and other cities if the city’s resources are depleted.
